The Beginning

Fairie Feet School of Dancing, a ballet school in Maisemore, near Gloucester, was established by Miss Joy in 2007 with just six pupils in a local village hall.

Three and a half years and 140 plus pupils later, it is now a growing dance school for children, teenagers and adults who love dance.

Miss Joy

Miss Joy is an experienced, fully qualified and registered teacher with the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) and International Dance Teacher Association (IDTA).

Miss Joy is also in the process of obtaining membership of the ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance).

RAD membership allows Miss Joy to enter pupils into examinations and to apply for scholarships within the RAD.

Miss Joy is fully insured and has an enhanced CRB check, which is regularly updated and can be seen upon request.

Miss Joy is also an Approved Teacher with the Council for Dance Education and Training (CDET) and Fairie Feet as a school has achieved Recognised School status under the CDET scheme.

The Aims of Fairie Feet

Fairie Feet aims to give every pupil the opportunity to develop:

• Self confidence

A love of dance

Pride in their work

Poise

Co-ordination

Musicality

Artistic expression

Discipline

Creativity

Technical skill of dance in their chosen genre

Fairie Feet Aims to achieve the above by creating at the studio a welcoming, fun, safe and yet professional environment.

Fairie Feet places emphasis on the enjoyment of dance, regardless of ability. However, a pupil with a desire and the talent to pursue a career as a professional dancer will be given every opportunity to do so.

Shows

Fairie Feet produces a show on a biannual basis in the February half term break. All pupils are encouraged and have the opportunity to take part.

Fairie Feet believes that shows are just as important as examinations as they allow pupils to express themselves artistically and to enjoy the delights of performing.

Examinations

As Fairie Feet follows the RAD syllabus in ballet and the ISTD syllabus in tap and modern, pupils may take, if they so wish, assessments and examinations.

Fairie Feet believes that it is important for pupils to take examinations as it gives their learning a sense of purpose by working towards a goal and once they have undertake the assessment/examination, they feel they have achieved something and attack their new work with confidence.
